Bilal S. Hamad, Professor at the American University of Beirut won the postion of Mayor in a recent municpal election.
Hamad earned his MS and PhD in Civil Engineering at UT and worked under Professor James Jirsa as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Ferguson Lab. His research program assessed the influence of epoxy coating on the bond characteristics of reinforcing bars and aimed to develop or revise the existing recommendations for the design of splices and anchorage of straight and hooked epoxy-coated reinforcement.
As the newly elected Mayor, Hamad intends to improve infrastructure in Beruit; as well as modernizing the administration and preserving the environment. For more information, please view the News Highlights from AUB.
